Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a system designed to collect, store, analyze, manage, and present spatial or geographic data. The City of Asheville creates and maintains GIS applications that allow users to view data in maps, download and analyze spatial information.

The City of Asheville GIS team won the North Carolina G. Herbert Stout Award for Visionary Use of GIS in 2009 and 2019.
